AN ORDINANCE TO REQUIRE BUILDING NUMBERS WITHIN THE TOWN LIMITS BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF WEST BLOCTON, ALABAMA, AS FOLLOWS:

 

 

SECTION 1.

There shall be assigned to each house and building located on any street, avenue, alley or highway in the town, a number identifying the address of the property. The owner of the property shall place or caused to be placed upon each house or building and/or both sides of a curb mounted mailbox controlled by him the number assigned.

 

Such numbers shall be placed or if missing, replaced within 20 days after the numbers are assigned. The cost of the numbers shall be paid for by the property owner.

 

Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property, regardless of where the front door is located. These numbers shall contrast with their background and be made of durable material.

 

Numbers shall be a minimum of four inches high for buildings located in the first 61 feet from the curb or edge of street.

 

Whenever any building is located between 61 feet and 100 feet from the curb or edge of street, the number shall be a minimum of six inches high.

Whenever any building is located more than 100 feet from the curb or edge of street, the number of such building shall be conspicuously displayed on the owners property at the rightof-way line (owners property line) near the driveway or common entrance to such building and upon any the gate post, fence, post, both sides of a curb mounted mailbox, or other appropriate place so as to be easily describable from the street.

 

 

SECTION 2.

Any violation of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be punishable by the issuance of a municipal offense ticket. If a defendant elects to plead guilty before the court to a first time violation of this municipal ordinance, a fine of $10, plus court costs, shall apply in an uncontested municipal court case. A defendant in lieu of appearing before the court may sign a .guilty plea and waiver of trial provisions on a municipal offense ticket and deliver the amount of the fine and costs to the clerk of the municipal court, or mail the correct amount pursuant to this section to the clerk of the municipal court at 1139 Main St, West Blocton, AL 35184.

 

 

SECTION 3.

This ordinance shall become effective upon its adoption and publication as required by law.
